Sad News – Reg Powell

This is to let you know the sad news that Reg Powell has passed away.

Reg was a long time supporter of Clubmans racing, driving his iconic Pink Panther Gryphon for almost 40 years. He was, of course, one of the group of drivers who started Classic Clubmans.

Reg started racing a Mini in 1964 before joining the Clubmans grids in 1979. As well as racing himself Reg ran a Group 2 Mini for Paul Burt in the early 1970’s, later running him with son Andy in a Vision Clubmans car. He continued to support Andy in running FF1600 and FF2000 race cars over the years.

Reg spent many years very involved with the BARC Club South East section and regularly attended their Lydden Hill meetings with the Pink Panther always proudly displaying its BARC badge.

His last race was in 2019 but he still continued to attend race meetings and support Classic Clubmans. In 2022 he and Andy entered the Pink Panther at a Goodwood sprint meeting, Reg enjoying the Goodwood paddock atmosphere.

Always enthusiastic and a great source of encouragement to me personally in all matters Classic Clubmans.

Reg was a lovely man whose knowledge, experience and sense of humour will be sorely missed. Our race paddock will be a poorer place without him.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Andy and the family at this sad time.

There are no details of the funeral at present but I will let you know the arrangements as soon as I have them. Please let me know if you would like to attend and I will pass the numbers onto Andy.

Regards,
Mike Sales
